HAVE YOU EVER BEEN LONELY
The first time I recorded Have you Ever Been Lonely was at Bill Wiley's Recording Studio in North Tacoma. Ray Wood played lead guitar on it..he did a great job..I always enjoy listening to his version...A few years later when I was working with Harvey Thomas, we recorded Have You Ever Been Lonely again as Harvey said he wanted to top Ray's version...We got another good take.. But of course, Harvey played a different style guitar so both versions were good but different. This record was on the back of Jealous Heart on my KARICRAFT RECORDS label.
SNOWBIRD
Harvey Thomas and I recorded Snowbird at Bill Wiley Studio in Tacoma WA. Bill had upgraded to a 4 track recorder by then so we had "plenty of room" to record the way we wanted. Harvey recorded all the music at one time on his "Infernal Music Machine" as he called his setup. He got so much music out of that. Harvey had called me on a Wednesday and told me we were doing Snowbird that Friday night...Well, I hadn't learned it yet. So turned on my trusty Sony 530 reel to reel tape recorder and sat by the radio waiting for the song to come on. When it did, I hit record .. Then played it over until I had all the words written down. I had the melody after hearing it a couple of times. So the rest of the day and Thursday and Friday, as I had time, I was memorizing words.. So, Friday night, as Harvey had said, we did Snowbird..Came through just fine..It was a staple song after that..People would request it sometimes six to eight times in an evening...An interesting time in music..Oh yes, Snowbird was the A side b/w Have You Ever Been Lonely.
JEALOUS HEART
Jealous Heart was recorded at Bill Wiley's Studio also.. It is on the back of Ray Woods' Have You Ever Been Lonely. Back then they recorded on a two track recorder so you had to be sure of what you were doing or going to do. The band played all at once so each one paid close attention to what they were playing and how it was blending with the others.. I was usually in a sound booth and sang along with the band recording on the other track..The one at the console had to really pay attention and not let his mind wander.. It was fun recording like that though...
